Functional Breathing Foundations

An 8-week online course to restore natural, everyday breathing, so the nervous system can settle and the body can return to ease

Breathing should support relaxation.
For many people, it doesn’t.

This course restores natural, everyday breathing so the body can settle and return to ease. This course restores natural, everyday breathing so the nervous system can settle and the body can return to ease.

Module 1

Module 1 introduces the foundations of this course.

We begin by exploring the relationship between breathing, thought, and the nervous system, and by learning to recognise common breathing patterns shaped by stress.

Rather than trying to change the breath straight away, this module focuses on awareness, orientation, and understanding what healthy, functional breathing looks like at rest.

This PDF offers a simple overview of the ideas we’ll be working with this week and supports the guided audio practice.

Guided Orientation and Breath Awareness (8–10 minutes)

This recording begins with a short orientation practice to help the body and nervous system settle before bringing attention to the breath.

The focus is on gentle awareness rather than control. You’ll be guided to notice your surroundings, your body, and your breathing as it is, without trying to change anything.

This recording is designed to be used most days during the week, especially when you want to pause, reset, or reconnect with your breath in a calm and supportive way.
